Marcus Garvey & Haile Selassie I (Read & comment)
« Thread started on: Jul 14th, 2009, 2:00pm »

Greetings Rasta's

Hope everyone is enjoying life and blessed with love from friends and famly.

I have come across an article which was sent to me a little while back regarding Marcus Garvey's attacks on Selassie I.

I would like for you all to read the article and respond with your views. Are many of you aware of this?. Apparently it is Garveys views and Garvey was quoted on various occasions rejecting Selassie and verbally insulting him.

I know there a plenty of members on this forum who know more than me about Garvey and Selassie so can I please ask bredrin and sistrin to give me your views and help me understand this 'conflict' further?.

Also Garvey is seen as a profit generally to Rasta's so where does his dispute over the Emperor come into your overstanding.

I need some guidance from y'all.

PEACE

Here is the article:

While I do not claim any expertise on the matter, that article sounds far to concerned with race, and not much concerned with soul.

When you look at photos of Haile Selassie, he would be what is termed, here in South Africa, as being colored - not black, like Garvey. So for Garvey, the world seems divided into black and white, which is surely not the way it really is.

I do not think Selassie was concened with entrenching the differences between the various types of people, as he was with realising their common spiritual heritage. Garvey seemed to want war, Selassie was trying to limit the damages caused by war.
